Comment:

A few months ago I decided to make a Kraftwerk sampler for my girlfriend...but I had no idea how to structure it. For one, Kraftwerk songs tend to be lengthy. I first decided to make a two disc set with all my selections in chrono order, but a poster here (Spacelab) pointed out that two discs would probably cover most of their material. So I decided to leave a lot of room on each disc and make them themed. Since Kraftwerk can be a little off putting to the casual listener, I decided the first disc would be more poppy material and the second would be more ambient or ponderous material. Then I decided to try and edit a lot of the songs down to more wieldy lengths, but I soon gave that up because I thought it was blasphemy (even though I made a nifty 10 minute edit of the original "Autobahn" that contains chunks of every section). So here is volume 1, which I think is a good starter kit. There were a lot of well-known songs in the gray area, like "Trans-Europe Express," "Radioactivity" and "The Robots," which I decided to leave for the "ambient" collection for various reasons. Even though I should have included the original "Autobahn" for historical significance, I ended up going with the "The Mix" version since it's much shorter and I didn't have to edit anything (plus, you just can't beat that a cappella chorus of robots near the end). I'll probably never be completely satisfied with my selections. Ah well. Let me know what you think.

Wonderful mix to introduce a girlfriend to the band that has influenced nearly all electronic music out there! The only songs im surprised that wasnt used (the mix is great without them so this by far isnt critisism :) was Trans Europe Express & Expo 2000
Also love the cd cover!

Thank you all for your comments. Shane...T.E.E. and Expo 2000 are going to be on volume two, which will be more ambient/esoteric fare. T.E.E. is a bit poppy...but it's so long that I think it works better on the ambient collection. Also...I will probably end up using the "Kling Klang 2002 Mix" of "Expo 2000," as I prefer it. But we'll see. I suppose that mix could have fit in pretty well here, but ah well.
