Comment:
Not much to say but the obvious: great 60's pop songs covered (reverentially or not) by 80's and 90's artists.Feedback:
You've collected some really great covers here! I'm especially partial to the TV P's song - only they would put TWO Creation songs on one record. Also wonderful are picks by Zumpano, the Residents (well, I like it), Feelies, among others. Let me know if you'd like to trade for this. I'm a sucker for 60s pop, etc., as I'm sure my mixes betray. Swell job.
All good stuff here James! I'm with Sean, the Feelies, dB's,and Hitchcock....
One of the better cover mixes I've seen on this site. Never knew that Zumpano song was a cover. Who did it originally? (Got your e-mail BTW--Will reply later today.)
"Rosencrans Boulevard" (yep, I mispelled the title) was originally recorded by Johnny Rivers (of "Mountain of Love" and "Secret Agent Man" fame) on his 1967 album -Rewind-. It took me a long time to figure that out. I knew it had to be a cover, since Jimmy Webb is credited as the songwriter. Webb did the arrangements on that record, too.
not to be all self-promotional, but if'n you like linda smith and opiganally yours, you should go to my website to hear their thoughts about 60's (and 70's and 80's and 90's) pop. television personalities were also a good choice.
Very good mix. Great fun. My only qualm is with the inclusion of the Langley kids, since the recordings used on "Innocence & Despair" were made in 1976 and '77. But it's only really been made readilly available recently, so it's not really too out of place here. Great mix.
this looks really great.
Yeah, I goofed a bit with that track and the Resident's cover, which came out in 1975 (it predates Devo's version). The Television Personalities just squeaks in (1981).
