Comment:
One of three collections of my favorite Kinks recordings, 1964 to 1972. What can I say? The Kinks are one of my absolute favorite bands of the era, and they've never been given their due as a group that consistently produced great music without gaining nearly as much attention as their comtemporaries.Feedback:
YES! As I said on my mix, I truly believe that they're the most underrated AND greatest band in rock and roll. I think part of the problem is the sound quality of their recordings as compared to the Beatles and, say, the Beach Boys. They didn't have the time or money to record heavily produced lp's; rather, they had to rely on spirited (often one-take) performances and brilliant lyrics. Long live the Kinks. Their contemporaries are all fine, but the Kinks embody all of the greatest (and occasionally worst) elements of rock and roll.
Doh! Obviously, that should be "Waterloo Sunset." I can't believe I didn't catch that.
What Sean said. I've just recently started rediscovering the Kinks, and there are some mighty joys to be found in their catalogue.
