More basic than it should be, actually. Just a single disc primer for people who haven't heard the incredible music of Neil Hannon (and there are a lot out there) including all the singles and strong albums tracks from the first two albums (from which there weren't any singles). I think it works better than the commercially available "A Secret History" (which doesn't include the excellent 2001 tracks anyway). Worked like a charm for my girlfriend. Flows *incredibly* well ('cept for maybe "Certainty" into "National"). In retrospect I should have made it two discs and included b-sides and strong album tracks. Instead, I plan on doing a second volume entitled "Wit Vs. Shit."

Nice one Keymaster! (count me among the "lot out there" as I'm only familiar with "Something For the Weekend")

That was actually the first I ever heard...and remains one of my favorites.

all right, I think you've been reading my mind. I've been spending a lot of time with people who are in love with Neil Hannon lately and from what I've picked up this looks very nice. I might very well like to trade for this and the sequel at some point . . .

Looks good, my friend (I just had to stop myself from using your real name). The original version of "Pop Singer" is sooooo much better than that remake, I'd agree. You've included two of my top three favorites--"Your Daddy's Car" and "Everybody Knows (Except You)", as well as two other huge favorites, "Songs of Love" and "The Frog Princess". I'd put a lot less from his last two albums on a disc, although I understand the "singles overview" nature of this one. (I know that I've mentioned my general aversion to Regeneration and wanted to mention that I'm not very fond of Fin de Siecle, either.)
