The music that made me what I am today: An underachieving, 32 year old office worker with a mortgage. Time to rawk with the chix you dig.

The vast majority of this mix never really appealed to my taste. That is not a judgement on the music at all. It just ain't my bag. So what am I getting at and why am I commenting. I will explain. I just read the book Fargo Rock City by Chuck Klosterman, which this mix would serve as a brilliant soundtrack.I higly recommend the book to ALL music fans. It is one of the most engaging music books I have read. No, reading it won't make you worshipping Axl Rose, you won't feel the need to go fill in gaps in your collection. but you will laugh your ass off. Chuck hits the mark on how we all feel about music and he does it using a goofy subject to boot.

I think I gotta go pick that book up, being a mere 220 miles from Fargo and all. Winnipeg has always been a hard rock bastion, no one can quite explain why...is it our relative isolation from the rest of the world, let alone Canada or North America? Is it because we never quite evolved into the Lance-Bass-loving society that the rest of the world as become? Is it because during RAWK's heyday, every hard rock/metal band came through town, with what felt like a huge arena show a week? You gotta remember that this is a city, probably the only city left in North America, where Judas Priest could still put 13000 fans into an outdated arena. A city where Wilco downsizes their show from a 2100-seat theatre to, essentially, a 700-person social hall, but Nickelback puts 8000+ into the arena. We are the home of the RAWK, where chix still tease their hair, where the UPS guy still wears a mullet (no joke, it's a nice one), and where spandex is still a part of the community standard. But it's home, the only one I know.
