Comment:
Many people say that pop music was in the doldrums in the early 70's. I don't believe it. There was too much good music in hard rock, glam, rhythm and blues, funk, bubblegum, and other genres to ignore. (In other words, critics suck). Rather than compile -all- of the great music I love from the period, I'm compiling some CD's of my favorite cuts from Rhino's 25 volume -Have a Nice Day: Super Hits of the 70's- instead. Why? Because, along with some great songs, there are some one-hit classics, moments of schlock brilliance, and cool oddities that also charted back then. (The type of records critics ignore, by the way). Can you imagine something like "Popcorn" by Hot Butter, a Moog instrumental, hitting the charts today? Me neither. 70's AM radio airplay: genius, schlock, and odd, all at the same time. And, most of all: fun!Feedback:
I'm comin' out as a 70s fan right with ya, JD! So much diversity is right... you've included some verifiable classics.. and some total cheeze (Seasons In The Sun makes me hurl!).
..and Dwight Twilley is STILL making music!
I think this one is my favorite of them. I love the Partridge Family and Hot Chocolate songs. Guilty pleasures. Oh, and "Brandy," too.
