Comment:
Christ I've made a lot of mixes this week for people (hey, my exams are over...for a month or two), and it's gotten me really depressed. Well, it hasn't at all really, but that didn't stop me making this depression mix which I think is incredibly depressing. Something about depressing music does it for me incredibly...there's more passion, more meaning...it just sounds more 'real.' So even when I'm not feeling down, I like listening to really depressing music. I made this mix CD last week and I've been listening to it while smoking cigarettes and writing a novel at around 3am. It's been good. It's been very good. I think this mix, uh, mixes really well.(I think Nick Drake exemplifies depressing music, especially knowing his history - or lack thereof. Such an extraordinary guitarist, lyricist and vocalist dying at such an early age is always going to be incredibly depressing and tragic. And I may be looking for it too hard, but when you listen to his voice, it seems to have the fragility of an incredibly depressed person. The same fragility I hear in the voices of the two friends I have who have or have had clinical depression).
Feedback:
the first 6 artists are a fucking powerful combo. the 3 songs at the end make a great finale. the middle isn't doing much for me though. just an opinion. i guess i don't really know enough about machine gun fellatio, widow jones, tim buckley, yuhki kuramoto or tex perkins. great selections though.
good depressing stuff
