Dude, you're insane. But anyway. More depressing songs? Lots of other Radiohead tracks would be fitting here (tho You and Whose Army is a great pick). Bright Eyes "it's cool we can still be friends" is a killer, but more along the lines of lost romance. And there are some Pink Floyd tunes that can make the best day of my life turn black..

Some favorites: Leonard Cohen, "Famous Blue Raincoat", John Prine, "Sam Stone", any Joy Division, Lou Reed, "The Bed" or "Street Hassle", Slint, "Washer" or "Good Morning, Captain", James Carr's "Dark End of the Street", Husker Du, "Hardly Getting Over It", anything from John Lennon's "Plastic Ono Band", Palace Brothers, "Riding", and the greater part of Hank Williams and Robert Johnson's discographies.

okay..you want songs ripping with emotion? try Tool. Maynard's voice is so insanely beautiful. his lyrics are heart wrenching. He is also the singer of A Perfect Circle--great depressing song off of that album would be "3 Libras". "i threw you the obvious just to see if there's more behind the eyes of a fallen angel, eyes of a tragedy..here i am expecting just a little bit too much from the wounded. but i see through it all. see through. see you. cuz i threw you the obvious to see what occurs behind the eyes of a fallen angel, eyes of a tragedy..oh well..oh well..apparently nothing. apparently nothing at all... you don't see me." haha random depressing song just popped into my head. "tears in heaven". now thats a fucking depressing song. hmm.."say it ain't so" by weezer is definitely depressing and oh so good. okay, "The Perfect Drug" (NiN) that last minute or so.."without you everything falls apart..without you its not as much fun to pick up the pieces.." and the "take me if you want me" in the background..and the piano, and trent's aching voice..just kills me every time. here's an obviously very depressing song, even if you don't know it: "grey" by Ani DiFranco. very slow guitar..some piano.."you walk through my walls like a ghost on tv, you penetrate me. and my little pink heart is on its little brown raft floating out to sea. and what can i say, but i'm wired this way and you're wired to me. and what can i do but wallow in you unintentionally.." ahhhhhhh. i can't listen to it anymore, its really gettin me down. ohh i thought of yet another song.. "Beautiful Child" by Fleetwood Mac. i remember listening to that song and sobbing. it filled me with so much emotion. and it made me insanely sad. i'm going to listen to it right now and make sure thats its really as sad as i thought it was in 8th grade..haha. okay, it sounds like an extremely depressing lullaby or something..oh how i do love FM. heehee. alright, i think i'm done for now.

in agreement with linzer, it's cool we can still be friends is incredibly depressing. dmb?? ew. no. ani difranco. elliott smith. lou reed. definitely if ryan adams gets two tracks, nick drake should get two. it's mostly that extremely fragile singer/songwriter stuff that is the most depressing just due to the intimacy of it all. great mix though.

Everyone has different choices for what song is depressing. The Smiths...Definitely."How Soon Is Now",Definitely not.My fave Smiths song that bums me out would be "Stretch Out and Wait".That's my opinion. If you had to put another song on this mix,it would have to be Braid's "What A Wonderful Puddle".The end of the song when Bob Nanna sings "I do" over and over kills me every time.Kind of Like Spitting does an acoustic version that is just as beautiful.KOLS does some really depressing songs as well. You should check them out.I hope my 2 cents doesn't offend or anything. These are just my opinions.

Nick Drake is absolutely obligatory for a mix like this. I'd also consider adding Pedro the Lion's "Second Best" or "Bad Diary Days". Also, to me The Clash's "Lost in the Supermarket" would have to be on there, great line in that one 'I wasn't born so much as I fell out, Nobody seemed to notice me. We had a hedge back home in the suburbs over which I never could see." I would probably have to put on at least 2 Leonard Cohen songs if I ever tried a mix like this. Anyway, great mix.

Thanks a lot for this everyone! (But if you read this, do keep the tracks coming in). I'll download every track mentioned here and make a new depression mix with the tracks I find depressing and that I like added. And I'll e-mail all those whose tracks they suggested make it on.
P.S. Can't believe I forgot to put on Elliot Smith!

great braid suggestion... kind of like spitting does an acoustic cover it which is really nice and arguably a lot more depressing than the original version. bad diary days is also quite good.

This IS depressing and I just love it. I'd throw some Fiona Apple on there. She's got a lot of depressing stuff. I'd maybe pick "Sullen Girl," that's the one she wrote about her rape.

yeah, joy division's "atmosphere", tool's "H", or onelinedrawing's "big parade", also musically it doesn't work but it's a damn good song is sage francis' "inherited scars"
