Some folks when depressed like to listen to depressing music, to keep the mood going, but during the Great Depression what people wanted, apparently, were optimistic tunes to keep their minds off the bleak reality. Some of this relentless optimism from the 1930's now seems ridiculous, but even so it can still cheer you up to listen to it.
