Comment:

(Note: this is actually on two CD's, but I'm too lazy to type out the two tracklists separately.) I was recently asked what was going on in music during the 1980's, and this mix is my response: a subjective, hastily sequenced, non-chronological mix (except for the songs being divided into 1980-1984 on the first disc and 1985-1989 on the second) of some of my favorite songs from that maligned decade. Due to time constraints, I had to leave out some bands (such as REM, U2, and the Cure) with whom I could assume the person for whom the mix was made was already familiar.

Nice choices all around.

Hard to argue with any of this. Recognizing your REM proviso, I don't think you omitted any of the decade's truly influential bands. My only qualm would be the omission of the college radio jangle-pop genre (i.e. dB's, Connells, Reivers, Game Theory, Tommy Keene, Love Tractor, etc.).

Taking into account the r.e.m. & cure exemption, there's some pretty definite definitivity to this. Frighteningly close to my take on the decade. Damn fine!

Show this to everybody who says, music in the 80s was shit. Bands like The Smiths, The Jam, Jesus And Mary Chain produced some of the best songs and albums ever to be released. Thanx for that mix.

This is great, but it just begins to scratch the surface. There is a ton of good stuff from the 80s...too bad I wasn't listening to it at the time...(forgive me but I was still an ignorant child...)

i'm doing this musical at the moment, called 'back to the 80s' and it's shocking. basically it revives all the putrid pop of the 80s - all the BAD parts we'd rather not remember. people would be misled to think that this is what the 80s was. thankfully people like yourself show that there WAS a decent side to humanity and music in this... 'memorable' time period.

You have some of my favorite songs here. This mix makes me want to thank my big sis everyday for not letting go the way of my friends with New Kids and Debbie Gibson.

If I was doing a comp of the eighties, almost all of this would be included. Great mix, and congratulations on mix of the week!

I especially like that Run DMC is in this mix. I think I alternated that with my X records at the time. Doesn't seem like it would go, but it does. Good job!
