Comment:

This is something that started because I wanted to listen to that Wallflowers song in my car, but I couldn't just put one song on a CD. So, I decided to surround it with some of my most recent acquisitions. To fill it out, I went through my CD collection and cribbed stuff from some of my "Greatest Hits" and "Best Of" albums. I think it starts off well-grounded with one foot in the past. Then, I tried to make a nice switch to the modern between the Air and Bonnie Tyler tracks. I think this is one of the better mixes I've made recently after a long slump. The only misstep is that I think the Zeppelin tune and the Foo Fighters track should be flip-flopped. That way, Brian May's blistering guitars from the Pink Floyd remake could have led into his old band, Queen. But, anyway, it's got POTUS's "Lump" (when was the last time you heard that song?) - you know you love that!. Plus, I think it's kinda' cool having the Billy Joel song back-to-back with that R.E.M. classic. Wouldn't you agree?

Further evidence of the huge disparities in personal taste. For example, I happen to think that the Clash is just about the greatest thing to ever happen to rock and roll, and I love Elliott Smith (and, yes, the Turtles). On the flip side, I would rather be tossed naked into a cage full of rabid unfed dingoes with a raw steak strapped to my genitals than hear Journey, "Total Eclipse of the Heart," or, oh my God, "Mr. Roboto."

That's the whole point. When I was putting this together, I thought about how half the people who hear this are going to just LOOOVE hearing that Bonnie Tyler treacle while the other half are going to cringe and want to vomit. One man's trash is another man's treasure.

i'm surprised Air and Journey were able to coexist on a tape without causing the end of the universe...

The weird thing is I think I'd listen to this mix over and over and never get tired.

Well I will stand up and say, "I am Jill and I love 'Total Eclipse of the Heart!'" Lots of other stuff I love here too.
