Comment:

This is a roughly chronological mix, showing the gradual electronic retooling of San Francisco psychedelic rock into the all-synth pop music prevalent two decades later. Whenever possible, shorter and more accessible songs are included, although some of these songs (especially the early Kraftwerk and Faust) can get randomly experimental. Constraints of the 80-minute CD also kept this mix shorter and less experimental than it "could" have been.

Ambitious...and some great choices. Especially like the Stones, Zappa and Wendy (Walter) Carlos. Welcome to the site!

Very impressive! Especially love the Faust and Eno, and that's a great Bowie(&Eno) song as well.

I have reservations about the ELP (and "Tomorrow Never Knows" seems essential), but this is an excellent mix.

Good stuff indeed..., although I think the best psychedelic bands--- state-side, we're from L.A. (not San Francisco). Also, the case can certainly be made that 60s psychedelia evolved into the 70s progressive rock and Germanic electronica/prog' into what you're saying is the 80s dance/synth' pop....the original thread of psychedelia was never lost and is still going strong, in another stream....

Hi Michael! Welcome to AOTM. This is a great mix to kick off with. I am more inclined to believe that the music from that era evolved the way Valis described, and then into stuff like the rain parade, REM, long ryders, green on red etc. From there, into the stone roses, charlatans etc and then into White Stripes, Dandy Warhols, Brian Jonestown experience etc. But that's just my take on things. I am in no way detracting from your view and your really groovy mix! Keep 'em coming. Healthy criticism is good for all of us.
