Comment:

I've been sitting on a train for 3 hours each day lately commuting to my new job. I've also been trying to study for my subject test for the GREs. I've been listening to music, but discovered I don't study much when the music has words, so I've compiled a jazz instrumental mix to listen to while I study on the train. I like the flow of this, but the chances are I will stop and listen to it even though there aren't any lyrics (except for the Count Basie song).

a wonderful and beautiful mix, Deanna. I hope this makes your long daily journey much more enjoyable. Three hours every day? You should get some kind of medal for that!

Looks and probably sounds really good. Three hours on a train each day!? Will you be moving anytime soon?

Nope. I'm going to continue with the hell commute until next year. Hopefully I will be accepted into the graduate program, and then I will live there part-time during the week.

Yeah, words are overrated. Some cool stuff here, Deanna. That Coltrane tune kicked off our wedding dinner. Good luck with the grad program. I'm looking forward to the new species of insect I'm sure you'll discover one day that you'll get to name after your fave jazzbo.

And I thought MY commute sucked. Yeesh! Good luck with that. But hey, the job is cool, no? And wow, what a mix. I have a hard time getting through complete jazz discs some time - I don't know if it's a short attention span, or a need for a central hook. Maybe I'm just lazy. In any event, this is a really great mix. I like the collection of jazz tunes that might not normally sit next to one another. They all seem comfortable here.

Excellent, Bugsy! I don't know how it is for studying, but I've found jazz makes driving nicer. Idiot drivers don't seem to irritate me as much. Gives me a better outlook I guess.

..nice one Madame Bug. (Although I've very little background in the genre....like Sean, I need/require/covet a central hook.) As long as it works..., I don't mind turning to Windham Hill-type artists when I wanna' hear something as "background' without having to pay attention to it. Vollenweider does me good.

It turns out it makes the commute much more pleasant, but it's hard to tune it out while reading. Oh well.
