Comment:

This is a mix that I'm making for my friend Laura as part of a Christmas present. It sums up our friendship since junior high in the most concise way possible--some of the tracks are just plain sad, and if you think so, I'd venture to guess that it was what Laura liked. I was going to make the whole CD a her tastes vs. mine thing, but that just got kind of sad. Anyway, starting with 9 I make it the story of our intertwining lives, trying to keep all my events in order--9 is the Weezer concert, 10 and 11 are from watching Velvet Goldmine with Liz (all of us: "what the hell?!?"), 12-14 are from Sarah's visit--I sang 12 with Sarah and I requested 13 on the radio on the way home (creepy DJ: "I don't know what you look like, I don't know what your hair smells like..."). 14 is the song that the DJ DIDN'T play that night, thanks to Sarah and I. 15 is from watching Hedwig with Liz, 16 is from the Pete Yorn concert (Girl: "hey, can I get you something from the bar?" Me: "umm, no, thanks." Laura: "she never went to the bar, did she?" Me: "shut up."), 17 is the song that I think absolutely everyone loves, 18 is from our Joan Jett experience with Liz (Me: "Joan Jett signed my pin!"), 19 from when Liz and I took Laura to Rocky Horror and she didn't even have to be a virgin, and 20 is what I played to seduce her in my room over Thanksgiving break when we ate donuts and giggled. 21 is recently added as an homage to my own rendition of "In Your Eyes" outside her house. So, say what you will, but I like it. Lucky for Laura, though, that I pretended her "Titanic" stage never happened.

ANY mix with Free Bird on it rocks. ;) No, looks like a fun mix, I like the OLP, Weezer, and Pete Yorn, as well as most of the rest of it... nice. :)

can you explain why the spice girls are on such an otherwise wonderful mix? *scratches head* I'm really confused, because there are some really great songs on here. mmmmm.

The Spice Girls are there as a cheeky reminder to Laura that she once enjoyed (or at least SEEMED to enjoy) The Spice Girls. I warned you that if you didn't like some of it, it was probably something Laura used to like (hey, give her a break, it's been like 6 years). However, I don't know why everyone's hating on the Spice Girls anyway.. I think it's something that completes the mix, and maybe you'd have to be either me or Laura to truly understand that. You can be me.

p.s. don't apologize for "wannabe", that song is tight

I'd never apologize for putting a song on a mix of mine. And yes, "Rough Sex" is a very seductive song, not many people recognize the power of the blatant come-on. Laura would be one of those people who didn't recognize the power of it. Oh well, back to being straight.

Hehe. I like the track by track narrative, it shows how much thought you put into this.
