What is Power Pop?

I first heard it late at night on a St. Louis AM radio station when I was in junior high. Wow! What was it? I waited to hear the back announcement, but it never came. The station had signed off for the night.

Took me a couple of years to discover the name. Go All The Way. The Raspberries.

What is Power Pop?

Up-tempo. Melodic. Loud guitars. Jangly guitars. A touch of boogie. Super-compressed. Lyrically lite. Conducive to air guitar. You don't have to sound like Eric Carmen, but it sure helps.

This mix is loosely based on a cassette mix--now lost. I just started taping stuff I liked. After a few listens I detected an underlying theme, despite the fact that the artists spanned a number of genres and eras.

This looks freakin' great Lenny. You gotta love power pop, and this mix covers most of the best artists working at the plant. BTW, does anyone else out there remember the Hudson Brothers' variety show in the mid-70s?

Excellent. I'll second Ion and the Swede. And Ion, I remember the Hudson Brothers' show, though I've tried my best to forget.

Real nice Lenny! We love Power Pop...! (Yes, I too remember the Hudson Bros. show...the emu, and Chuckie Margolis..., but I'm with Curtis.) Nice Shoes pick!

mmmmm... *drool* Yeah... There is no way this mix could've been bad, but you knocked it out of the ballpark. Way to be.

Brilliant mix. I have something eerily similar to this with almost all the same bands. Starry Eyes could possibly be the most perfect powerpop song ever written. I do have to say I'd have picked something from earlier Three O'Clock, but it's "just nice to be nominated."
