Comment:

This was made at the end of the last scholastic year, as an attempt to document what had been a formative year for me, as far as my musical tastes were concerned. Each song was one I had discovered within the last 9 months and as such it holds up more as a historical document than an actual enjoyable mix. In other words, I get a kick out of it, but I may be the only one. Some of the choices are overly obvious, but what's a guy to do. To this day though (a whopping 18 months as I write this, an eternity I know), I absolutely love the way those last two songs close off the mix. I mean "Dreamer in my Dreams" has like 12 different endings. But if I had just completed "Being There" I wouldn't want to stop either.

Good stuff! the Billy Bragg/Wilco is a fave, as is the Belle & Sebastian, and the excellent Lou Reed track.

Isn't going away to college the best thing in the world for your cd collection? It got me over the warped tour in a hurry. Nice mix, love the pixies, pavement, et al.

Nice mix. That Huskers song is literally one of my ten favorite tunes of all-time. Remind me to e-mail you someday with my Grant Hart story that concerns that song... you'll enjoy it immensely.

this mix is the cat's meow. i especially like the mats, husker du, and bash and pop tracks. thanks for the feedback on my paul w. mix. actually, i did see him twice on his past tour. though, he did forget a lot of words, it was one of the most amazing shows i'd seen. to finally see paul live...it was fabulous.

I know it. I saw one and have copies of three others and at the one I was at, he admits, "I'm going to have trouble remembering all of the words to this one" and goes into "If Only You Were Lonely". Damn near every single person in the audience was singing their heart out along with him and I think it may have been the most spiritual thing I have ever been a part of. "Somewhere there's a smile with my name on it"

And yes, that has got to be my favorite Huskers song...I love them as a whole, but I just flat-out adore Hart's song-writing combined with their other, "Mould-ish" sound. And to my ears, that song is the perfect combination of the two.

if i made a mix of songs that would remind me of my freshman year in college, "summer babe" and "here comes your man" would have to be included....cool idea, nice mix.
