Comment:
In this case I don't have a complete enough discography to fully represent him, especially the later stuff, so try not to hate me for that. Also, I am obviously a sucker for his goofy songs, that have no business being as catchy as they are. I think he would be entertaining live, but I blew the one chance I had to see him, this October. Finally, I've got to say, both "Girlfren" and "I'm a Little Dinosaur" just get me, I don't know why. Title from "Back in Your Life". Oh, and I was too lazy to confirm the actual credits of the songs, ie which ones are the Modern Lovers, which ones are Jonathan Richman & the Modern Lovers, and which ones are just Johnathan Richman, so I went by memory. Sorry 'bout that.Feedback:
No apologies necessary, this mix is great. I just saw him at the Court Tavern a few months ago. Back in Your Life is one of my favorite songs of his.
Nice mix. I've got a similar one which I just realized I hadn't posted here yet; I'll have to upload it for the sake of comparison. I've caught him live several times, and you should definitely make the effort. Not every show is great -- I can do without the country and Spanish-language tunes he'll pull out of his hat -- but when he's on, he's a ton of fun.
"Girlfren" slays me everytime, as well. I also have a similar mix, "Put down your cigarette and drop out of high school". Nice pick of "Chewing Gum Wrapper", btw.
love jonathan. i always put his stuff on when i want to be reminded of my former home (boston, of course).
like it, a lot, a lot
Love Jonathan, and love the mix. I made one a while ago too, it's hard to put all your favorites on one disc though!
oh, awesome. jonathan has so much material that he's just prime for mixing. i think you've got a nice combination of his siller and more serious songs, something i tried to do but just couldn't work. and he's not only extremely entertaining live, but most definitely one of the best performers around right now. he acts like he's standing in front of a crowd of friends, and is just genuinely himself. plus, last time i saw him, he stood in the crowd, right in front of me, and sang. holy crap, having him smile at me was one of the most amazing moments ever. ramble ramble, great mix!
