Comment:

I suppose this mix was inevitable. Really though, it isn't a best-of at all. This functions more as an introduction to what is right now my very favorite band. I had originally planned on making a best-of compilation, but my rough draft was 35 songs long. I couldn't bear to cut certain songs out, so I decided to turn the mix into an introduction to the band. The general idea, then, is to make them want to go out and buy all the songs I couldn't squeeze on here.

Still, I feel bad about the stuff that isn't here. I would have liked to see the whole side 2 of Tim(minus one song) represented, but ended up scrapping "Left of the Dial" *and* "Little Mascara" because I didn't want to only pick one and favor it over the other. Yes, I'm a bit neurotic. Other songs that should absolutely be on a best-of: "Johnny's Gonna Die", "Androgynous", "Treatment Bound", and "Within Your Reach", just for starters. Also, I excluded All Shook Down from the preceding as it was a Westerberg solo album in all but name(not that that's a bad thing, it just would be out of place on a 'Mats mix). Entirely appropriate title taken from "I Don't Know", which isn't on the disc.

Actually, "One foot in the door..." is from "I Don't Know." And, have you ever heard "The Shit Hits the Fans?"

Good Lord. What in God's name was I thinking? I've made mistakes before, but this is unquestionably the worst. I'll change it, but leave the comment up as a testimony to my remarkable idiocy. I absolutely cannot believe I did that. This is what you get when you post at three in the morning. And, yeah, I heard SHTF once, but I don't own it. If you have it on CD I would love to trade.

Great stuff, Adam. And I like your title better than mine. I wish I'd have thought of that... :-)

Nice work, man. Member of Skyway for years now, and I try to put at least one Mats/PW song on a given mix. My fave songs: IOU, Red Red Wine, I Hate Music, and I'll Be you (oh yeah).

Great job. As a former Minnesotan, I can say that this band is my all time favorite. Strangely, I didn't truly appreciate the 'Mats until I was in my mid twenties--dumb, by that time they had broken up.

I would include 'within my reach' if I were you, but otherwise I think you chose well...
