On a recent episode of "Sports Night", one of the characters found himself in a quandry over tickets to a Tom Waits show. My friend turns to me and says, in all sincerity, "Who's Tom Waits?" After picking myself up off the floor when I fell out of my seat, I proceeded to expound on the virtues and failings of Saint Tom. I think I lost her when I said that "even though his voice sounds like Bob Dylan singing through a tracheotomy, his songs are one hundred percent honest(with the possible exception of "Step Right Up")", so I offered to mix a tape for her of stuff that might be up her alley, but also might push the envelope.

That mix probably would have been a good one, if I had decided to make it. Instead, I made this one, and gave it as a birthday gift.
