Comment:

I thought I ought to make this, as I didn't see any other Dolls' mixes on the site (though Sean Lally did an excellent Johnny Thunders comp here:http://artofthemix.com/FindAMix/getcontents.asp?strMixID=22930). To be entirely honest, their first album is absolutely tremendous and everything else is kind of weak in comparison, but there is enough good stuff across the two studio albums and multiple bootlegs to fill a disc. The tracks culled from this '74 Paris show are especially breathtaking. The band is completely on and just tears through these songs in the trashiest way posssible. It was wonderful. Plus David JoHansen trying to speak French to the crowd is worth a laugh. I don't know the language but he said something about needing to go to the library. And the Mercer Sessions are from '72 and feature the original band line-up before Billy Murcia's death. Oh, and if you were wondering, yes there are a handful of covers here: Bo Diddley, the Shangri-La's, and whatnot. And the title, of course, is from "Lookin' For a Kiss"

Hey, I thought the title was from the Shangri-La's "Great big kiss". But I nitpick.... This is a boss mix! I do like that first Dolls record, but like Thunders, there's a lot of not-so-good stuff to weed through to find the gems.

Nope, after my problems with the 'Mats comp I made damn sure I didn't miscredit the title again. It's from the opening line of "Lookin'...": "When I say I'm in love, you best believe I'm in love, L-U-V." Though there may be a similar sentiment expressed in "Great Big Kiss" now that I think about it. Thanks for the comment.

No, I meant that the line originally appeared in the Shangri-La's song (and in Johnny THunders' great cover). But hey, I'm not trying to be a hard-ass :-) The mix is super. Let me know if you want to trade for it.

Did it really? I'll need to listen again, I had never noticed it before. And I would be very interested in trading for your Johnny Thunders mix; I'll fire you an email when I get a chance.

Nice mix! I also like David Johansen's "Live It Up" ('82) lp..., with "reach Out I'll Be There" and "Funky But Chic", etc......just before he "became" Buster Poindexter.

I dunno professor, I think the material on the two legit LPs is trash at it's finest. Only thing ya gotta get around is some questionable production. First one's too slick & the second's too murky. Some of the demos find a nice balance for my refined taste.
