I've been planning to make a disc of whistling songs for a while and thought it was a pretty novel idea, but once again ArtOfTheMix has taught me that there's always somebody else thinking the same thing. Although my list is mostly pop rock artists like XTC, Peter Gabriel, and Roxette, and acts like the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band and Monty Python. I think the only two from your list I also had my eye were Morricone and Esquivel. I'm not familiar with a lot of the songs on your list, but I'm thinking that yours might be songs with whistling as the spotlight sound, while I was more or less thinking of songs with whistling in them.

Hi Different Kitchen: The idea on this mix was to spotlight whistling (i.e. Dick Hyman), but some songs do indeed have incidental whistling (i.e. Chubby Checker). The People Like Us cut samples and extends the Monty Python "always look on the bright side." whistling bit. I've learned since I made the mix (over a year ago) that there are a significant amount of old records, from the 78 rpm era up until the 1950's, featuring whistling in place of singing or lead instrument. I'm sure that your mix will be nifty as long as you stick to your original idea. It's always nice to hear other takes on a theme!
