Comment:
June 2001Just be warned, most of these don't have a happy ending, and I have gotten cursed for including 'Poor Old Tom'. Lots of good musicianship on these, especially old R. T. tearing it to shreds on "Vincent Black Lightning".
***The rest of the "Bringing It All Back Home" credit is (Volume 1, Valley Entertainment, 1998)
***The subtitle for the Gary Davis number is "(IF I HAD MY WAY, I'D TEAR THIS BUILDING DOWN)"
****Peter Case album is properly entitled: The Man with the Blue postmodern fragmented
neo-traditional Guitar, Geffen, 1989)
***The Silly Sisters are (JUNE TABOR & MADDY PRIOR)
Feedback:
Fantastic! I have only heard the Grateful Dead version of Samson and Delilah. Does Fairport Convention have any song at all with a happy ending (I am thinking Matty Groves, Did She Jump Or Was She Pushed, etc.)?
wow again
Thanks for your enthusiasm, both of you! Sadly, I am not thoroughly versed in all of Fairport Convention's oeuvre (or however you spell it ...) But neither RT, nor Sandy Denny are exactly known for their pert or chipperness ...
"Meet on the ledge, if you really mean it, it all comes round again". Marvelous mix.
Excellent. A favorite Fairport Convention song and love the Old and in the Way pick.
Cool pick...and liner notes! That Rev. Gary Davis number better be in the Smithsonian, or there's something very very wrong with this world!
Excellent selections! I especially love the Gary Davis and Richard Thompson.
Excellent sutff!Especially nice to see some Martin Simpson on a mix (one of my favourite guitarists).
Beautiful collection. Sad stories, yes - but what isn't?
Very cool.
Wouldn't necessarily fit in sonically, but thematically I'd be all over the Velvet Underground's "The Gift." Oh, poor Waldo.
very cool.
This mix is just fantastic. I love all the songs, but "Kilkenny" is has become one of my all time favorites. It's absolutely chilling. A great mix beginning to end.
Milles mercies, Mo!
