Comment:

The second installment in my year-mixes. This one is much different from the '65 one in that my heart is ruling my head here: while I really wanted to get "Born To Run" and "Tangled Up in Blue" on here, I don't remember hearing them on a.m. radio when they were hits quite the way I remember a number of these songs (for those of you who may not remember, listening to music on a.m. radio was a specific kind of listening experience, though I can't exactly explaining why). It was also tough limiting Elton John to one song: he was a childhood musical hero of mine and his Captain Fantastic album from '75 has always been a big favorite. However, I can't overstate how important "Philadelphia Freedom" was to a 10-year-old EJ fan who lived in the Philadelphia suburbs! I was much more into piano playing pop stars (my big trio is represented here) than the harder rocking bands like Queen, Kiss, and Sweet, who I picked up on later. Anyway, I do still feel guilty leaving Springsteen and Dylan off this CD, but I'm sure once I listen to it, I'll get over that.

Cool stuff...Jack Elliott is the performer of the Barney Miller theme...he also did the very similar Night Court theme.

Good lord, Rich! This is some stroll down amnesia lane! I can hear it now... "Bad (bad!), Blood (blood!)..." Wasn't that a duet with Elton? Yeah, AM radio was a pretty big influence on all of us facing 40. I think it's a good thing - I mean, radio (in my memory) didn't seem to suck as much then as it does now. But it's probably just selective memory.

great. this certainly does bring back memories of AM radio - although there's probably still an am station out there playing these songs right now! actually, AM radio is pretty good for "oldies" (and i'm not talking about classic rock!)

Funtastic. It's all there (and yes, we can do without "Hurricane"). Man, I even dig those Glen Campbell and Barry Manilow singles . . . and still have them in my collection. ;)

19, 20 and 21 are all favorites of my fiance's. My birthday mixes had all three! This must have taken some work!
