I know the mix is a bit eclectic, but it tells the story.
PAST
1. Robert Smith returns home from Vietnam shortly after a cease-fire agreement is signed on January 27th, 1973. Robert is constantly haunted by the many atrocities he has witnessed in combat. To ease his mind he listens to the Grateful Dead and witnesses them in concert countless times. In early December of 1973, Robert meets Lydia, his future wife, at Boston Music Hall while the Dead open the show with Morning Dew.

2. Time passes by and Robert and Lydia have two children, Joseph and Julianne. At the age of 18 Joseph registers to vote. and to fight.

PRESENT
3. George W. Bush comes into office. The draft is reinstated. At the age of 22 Joseph is picked to fight.

4. Julianne, who is now 19, goes to her first anti-war demonstration. She is told to "emancipate your selves from mental slavery/ None but ourselves can free our minds."

5-6. Joseph enters combat for the first time.

7. Joseph's best friend is killed in combat. Now, just as his father, Joseph is losing things precious to him and fighting in a war he does not believe in.

8. Joseph reflects on the similarities between his situation and his father's situation. War is beginning to erupt all around the world: the Middle East, Korea, the Philippines.

9-11. Julianne attends more peaceful, anti-war protests.

12. Several of Julianne's protesting friends become militant. The nation is torn as the police retaliate and attempt to put an end to all demonstrations, whether they are peaceful or violent.

13. Joseph is injured in battle and is sent home.

14. Time passes by.

FUTURE
15. Joseph listens to the same lyrics his father did to ease his mind.
