Comment:
The original idea here was to make a mix that collected all my favorites from my Dylan bootlegs, and put them on one disc. I usually get bored with listening to one show, and inevitably hitting a usually tired version of "Like a Rolling Stone" or "Blowing in the Wind", so I thought if I have all my favorites on one disc, well then I'll be set. This was the reasoning, but not necesarily the result. I love all the versions here, but I originally intended to use the original version of "Hurricane" from the Ruben Carter benefit, and something from the Supper Club shows in '93, but ran out of space. I was also going to stay away from the Bootleg Series and Biograph, but most of the live songs are a bit on the long side so I decided to throw in a few shorter, studio tunes that didn't find their way on to albums to break it up. And on "She's Love Crazy", and most of the shows in that era, Bob has back-up singers which I have affectionately dubbed "The Dylanettes". It is quite bizarre to hear "Tangled Up In Blue" with a sax solo and back-up singers that sound like the Supremes. I guess that's just Bob.Feedback:
very nice. i could've gone to see ole' bob a few weeks ago here - i probably should of, as who knows when, if ever, he'll make it back to perth. but, you know, $115 a ticket was a bit steep...
looks nice
Nice one Adam.
Yeah, Sue, I'm wouldn't have forked that kind of cash over either. He was much more inexpensive when I saw him a few years back, and he is kind of a dicey proposition live. When he's on and he whips out that harp, it's something to see. And then there are other times you can't really tell what song he is playing. These performances fall in the former category, obviously, but they are a little harder to find than the latter.
As much as I love Dylan, he's freaking insane and as a person I'm not so sure I trust him. Although, if you're interested, I have a cool picture of him getting hugged by two attractive ladies at some rodeo he helped host. It's absolutely histerical. E-mail me and I can send it to you.
"I guess that's just Bob" sums it up pretty well, I think!
Great idea! His versions of Friend of the devil over the years is really great, I hope he will record it in the studio someday, a slow version with lovely violins!
