Comment:

For Rose, of course -- & inspired by Mo Twang's "Bunch of Roses" mix -- this turned out to
be the most sentimental, schmaltziest collection of songs I've ever assembled, & some of the selections are so uncool that simply looking at them on the playlist would be enough to render you unhip for the rest of your life -- but I really think there's something about roses as a subject that brings out the schmaltz in the songwriter & the singer -- anyway, that's the way it went, & Rose seems to like it, so I guess I can say this mix rose to the occasion.

oooh...to really seal the "unhip" label, you could have added Paper Roses by Marie Osmond! A very sweet bouquet!

You could have bought your way out of rose-hell by placing the MC5 on this mix. But something tells me that would be just wrong. It's amazing just how many songs there are about roses. Truthfully, it's not really the prettiest of flowers, is it? Or maybe roses just seem a little precious to me. OK, the truth is.... my neighbor is a freaky rose person - we've got roses all over the damned place. It's maddening! But this mix, on the other hand (and schmaltz included) is purty. But Angela Lansbury? Hmmmmmmm..... I'm not sure if even the great Joey de Vivre can get away with that.

A truly great mix! Love the Fats Waller track. In volume two, you could put EC/George Jones "A Good Year For The Roses", or even Poco's "Rose Of Cimarron".

Way cool mix, love Aretha's and also Angela Lansbury doing Sondheim. I made one along these lines once (long story), including Grateful Dead "Ramble on Rose" and Seal "Kiss from a Rose."
