Comment:
Mix inspired by the Tucker Bs, that is, after having seen them live 3 times in the past 2 weeks, I had to make another mix that featured their skewed mix of dissonance/beauty. (Although, 'Degreaser' is mainly beauty). I feel lucky to live in a place where you can see/hear such dissonance/beauty live, at least once a month (or, in this case, 3 times in 2 weeks). Who says Perth's boring???? For those not in the know, one of those travel guides voted Perth one of the most boring cities in Australia. Says who?Mix also inspired by recent purchases/acquisitions - all of these picks come from cds/records acquired in the past 4 weeks (except for the Tucker Bs, who's cd i got at the launch in nov - my hand numbered copy was 27/50! But you can buy the 'official' version in all good aussie record shops). Many/most were either 2nd hand or half price (half price due to idiots not knowing what they were missing!) Thanks to Kim (if he still reads these things) for the Rainyard/Mars Bastards (MB were the forebearers of Rainyard - both bands featured, at some point, the same band members) compilation of old cassettes that he put together for me, and also for the Songs:Ohia dub of the home recordings, which only came with the vinyl version of "magnolia electric company". Title courtesy of the TUCKER Bs. Hi!
Feedback:
perth sounds anything but boring, judging from your mixes, although a song called "degreaser" sounds a little disturbing to me.
disturbing? nah. well, maybe a little. at their gig last sunday all 4 band members dressed in priests robes. disturbing?
love the title
I love that title as well...., for the images it conjures. ;-D A lot I've not been hipped to here, as usual with your great mixes......how's that burner treatin' ya..? I'd take Perth....
Ooh, I like the Minus 5 and Lucksmiths stuff. Nice selections all around.
Nice! I always like your mixes.
I think I should enjoy living in Perth and I like this mix too even if I haven't heard much on it
Having never been to any city in Australia, I can't speak for the boringness of Perth. I do know that your mixes are never boring, and this appears to be no exception.
Thanks for the greeting, can't say I'm familiar with much here, but props on the songs:ohia and ida.
uh, correction! the rainyard pre-dated the mars bastards. after both bands split the merge was header. still reading this and still know how to pick a nit.
thanx for that! glad to see you still read these :) i read the rainyard/mars bastards bio (i think it was on the whammo site) and it was a bit confusing...
jesus some people ARE miising out if most of these are secnd hand picks. Good to hear tucker's are gigging reguarly again. one of the more interesting bands araound, certainlty not boring.
hey dude. glad to hear you like my mix. i'm especially proud of the cover, do you like it? what do you think of kath williams? and... what else was i going to ask you... ahh. tex, don & charlie, you dig? i threw in some music on side B that i don't think is generally your 'thing' from looking at your mixes, but i though you might like it anyway. :-)
i don't know many of these bands, but i'm sure they sound great. i LOVE songs ohia! and yes, a great title as well.
still not convinced about kathryn? oh well, it was worth a try. but you like sigur ros, which strikes me as odd, considering the very feminine qualities of jonsi's voice. most people i know hear sigur ros first time and think it is a female vocalist. good to hear you bought gersey. i got their latest album recently too, plus their single 'for whom do you sail.' but i think so far i am sticking to their first album 'hope springs.' tis a wonderful album, which you should most definitely check out if you haven't already. plus the cover art photography is brilliant.
HI! indeed. (after this mix i think i finally miss the tuckers & its time for a revival. hooray!) nice songs sue. &maybe im bias but i say its a great city.. luv ya perth.
