"Wedding Dinner Music...FROM HELL!"
Comment:
Sorry, I just had to post this. I dj-ed a friend's wedding a few days ago and he basically gave me carte blanche when it came to music. He only had a few specific requests. This friend of mine has strange tastes (like me) and I knew things were going to be a bit unconventional when he asked that I play the "Simpsons Theme" when he and his bride entered the reception. So for the "dinner music" disc I came up with my own strange creation, namely this disc. I'm not really sure what I was thinking...I wanted to keep it jazzy but kitcshy. Then the Moog stuff entered and it added a muzak sort of vibe. Then Peter Sellers and Sean Connery showed up and crashed the party entirely. Anyhow, I liked it, and while he gave me some strange looks during dinner (as it was his first time hearing it) he did as well. And I can tell you it definitely became a conversation piece at some of the tables. Oh, and yes, I committed the unpardonable sin of repeating artists here, but it was too hard to choose just one Marty & Elayne and Mike Flowers track. A couple of other things you should know: (1) He's a Beatles nut as well (their song at the wedding was "In My Life") (2) He specifically requested that a William Shatner song be played sometime during the evening, hence track one (3) Marty & Elayne are an old couple who have a lounge act at The Dresden in L.A. They can be seen in the film "Swingers." I had the pleasure of seeing them live a couple of months ago, which is when I bought their CD. Funny stuff (though probably unintentionally). (4) To give you an idea of what this guy is like, he said if it were entirely up to him the only specific group he would have requested to be played at the reception was Ween. Anyway, I'll probably change this track listing slightly in the future and re-post it as something else. For instance, I really should have added "Looks Looks Looks" by Sparks.Feedback:
I like loopy stuff, and this seems to hit the nail on the head. I'd love a copy of this at some point.
This looks fabulous VCKoG! Wish you could have been the dj at our wedding last November. I can see why this mix received some strange looks. Not often you hear the theme from Police Squad or Pat Boone covering Metallica at a wedding!
a couple of bottles of wine and this mix hmm that would be hell of a party
Your friends are so freakin' cool for wanting this at a wedding.
