Comment:

Figured it was time for another (mostly) current events mix. Injustices piling up all around us as corruption, lies, cover-ups and other unseemly behaviors seem to be in a state of chronic epidemic. Wasn't all that supposed to have ended on 9/11???.Anyway, some notes, pertinent or not.1) Energetic attempt by our Australian friend, Peter Miller, to pull the curtain back on the imperial nature of the "free" world these days.Gotta love the Animal House soundbyte. That film, by the way, featured John Belushi as Bluto, the frathouse member who ingested the most of everything, displayed the worst behavior and was least likely to succeed, much less graduate!.The end shot of the movie, a "Where Are They Now?" montage, informed us that he subsequently won election to the Senate.Who would have thought that such a college derelict/substance abuser/illiterate would ever succeed in the highbrow, solemn world of American politics? In light of where we are and who we have at the top, it's not so funny anymore, is it, kids? 2) Noam Chomsky, one of a handful of voices of reason, clearly delineates (in two minutes, eighteen seconds, no less) why it's ALL about the oil. 3) My reaction to the "official" explanation to just about everything broadcast from Ari's podium. 4) Then Governor Reagan thinking out loud, hands wringing audibly, as to why we can't all get along without violence. 5) Creepy track I found at MP3.com that sounds like it could be the soundtrack to Armageddon here on Mother Earth. The distorted Bush Junior soundbytes in the background only add to the drama. 6) Great soundbytes of Nader and Jim Hightower. Cutting-edge truth and dazzling beats. As Mr. Hightower astutely points out, Ralph Nader has been accused of having no respect for the process.but then again, neither did Thomas Jefferson.Exhilarating! 7) Ferocious, throat-stomping assault on the violent culture that is all but shrugged off as happening on another planer, but you know what? It's happening right here. "This shit feels like the whole world collapsed" Try getting through this without squirming. 8) On the heels of MOP, Jello Biafra sounds downright sedate.for about 30 seconds. Great damnation on everything status quo. 9) Way back before the Beach Boys "came around" to become good Republicans, they recorded this ditty, which is all sorts of over-distorted and grungy. And the lyrics ring of truth and beauty.I suppose this was the "Ante Up" of the early 70s. 10) Chomsky pops a cap in the ass of George The Elder. 11) An old chestnut, celebrating a glorious and ancient land. 12) Way over the top monologue on the hippies, circa 1965. If the guy just wasn't so damn solemn.13) Funny stuff from the Capitol Steps, essentially roasting Pat Buchanan. Funny, but as time goes on, I almost feel like I have more positions aligned with Pat (e.g., no war in Iraq, anti-NAFTA) than I have with Tom Daschele. 14) No idea what or who this is, but it makes me laugh. 15. Dylan's shattering meandering on all things in all ways. Haunting chord changes that just burn with bitterness and regret. Are we having fun yet? 16) From a recent Shaggs tribute album . Standout treatment and particularly potent on the heels of a deeply reflective Dylan. Isn't that what AOTM is all about, anyway? 17) Words of wisdom from the tragic Ms. Garland. A dose of this keeps the pain of everything else at a safe distance. Perspective is everything. See ya next mix, folks!

This is awesome, Ken. Let me know what I can trade you for it. Very, very well done. And sadly enough, I know what you mean about Pat. Scary, innit?
