Comment:

First off, this mix doesn't exist yet, primarily because my gear is broken and I can't mix anything. Plus, as the title suggests, this mix is comprised of original music composed for Sony Playstation games, and obtaining a clean copy of any of these tracks can be tricky. Since Playstation games are CD-ROM based, sometimes the audio tracks for a game are programmed separately from the actual game data. They call this "redbooked" audio, and it means that you can throw your Playstation CD-ROM into your compact disc player, and you can access all the different audio tracks. However, not all game designers redbook their audio, so some of these tracks can only be captured thru playing the game itself. Sometimes, the Japanese companies will actually publish soundtracks for these games. I know that there are at least four different versions of the Resident Evil soundtracks. Anyway, this is something I've been thinking about doing for a while, because as a gamer, I'm continually amazed at the kinds of music game designers come up with to accompany the action. The music composer for Final Fantasy 8, for example, took the trouble to write a four-minute piece for the opening sequence that calls for a full orchestra with choir. For a freakin' video game, for cripe's sake. I also think it's interesting how some of the music will counter or reflect the action of the game. Admittedly, a number of these games don't have track listings, so I had to guess or make up names for them. Some of the tracks are relatively short, so this may wind up being only a 46- or 60-minute mix, but so what? I encourage any othe gamers out there with superior collections than mine to create companion pieces to this mix. I'm sure there's tons more that I'm missing. By the way, for the uninitiated, "FMA" stands for "Full Motion Animation", which are the expensive, often lengthy computer generated graphics sequences designers like to use in games to fill up extra space on the disc...=]'

nice mix! i'm glad to see there are other game-music fans on AotM. pretty good range of genres you have here -- punk to celtic to ambient to operatic, and beyond. (game music sure has come a long way, to actually have genres ... :P)

Too sweeet! This is pretty cool. I did an alternate soundtrack for FF VII.
