Comment:

With apologies to Scotty and Dave, for taking so damned long to finish this...

My contribution to the "Top of Everest" mix, and boy, did this one take me FOREVER. Without exaggeration, I must have changed it 100 times.

The final comp: Songs-1) "The Heart Asks Pleasure First" is an instrumental from the movie, "Unfaithful". I imagine once I ascended Everest, the first overture would have to be instrumental. This song is gorgeous 2)-then I'd have to throw in a little crunchy explosion-and no one better to do it than Stevie Ray. 3)-Zeppelin always seems to have a song that goes with everything. Choosing WHICH song was torturous. 4)-One of my fave U2 songs 5)-"Soul Singin'" is just one of those tunes that feeds me 6)-"High": Reminds me of my friends, especially Dave, and I want all my friends there with me in spirit 7)-Paul Weller's voice is so moving, and this song just fits 8)- "Love Reign O'er Me"...a song to scream from the rooftop 9)-"Levon', gotta have a tune that everyone can sing along with, and this one is so sweet 10)- "Everest"-'nuff said 11)-"Movin' On Up"-bizarre song...great group, and this song is so out of character for them; reminds me of an 'Up With People' kind of freaky Osmond tune, but it totally works 13)- Tracy Chapman, for when I want to get a bit introspective 14)- "Thinking of You"-mom died in '96, and I'm sure I'd be thinking of her when I'm up there 15)-"Overcome", to really feel it to my bones what I'd have accomplished, and 16)-"Amazing Grace"-the most gorgeous rendition I've ever heard. Just for me.

There's some really great stuff on here, and I can't wait to hear it!! It seems that we have very similar musical tastes...when it comes to classic rock, at least! I especially like the picks by The Who and SRV (a personal favorite)...and like you, sometimes choosing WHICH Zeppelin song is harder than choosing yes/no to Zeppelin in the first place!

You rock, Lola!! In response to your email, yes, I received this mix about a week ago, but I didn't want to reply until after I had gotten the chance to listen to it so that I can make some (ahem) intelligent comments...something beyond "hey great mix!" So here goes: like I said before, the SRV is a long-time fav (both by him and Jimi), so the inclusion is very much welcome by me! nWo 4-Life!! The first song that caught my ear that I wasn't already familiar with was the Black Crowes. I've always been a closet fan of theirs, but never owned any of their albums, and I really liked this song. Conversely, the Feeder song fits in the catagory of songs that I have heard before, but forgot that I liked it! The Primal Scream pick is just this side of inspired, and like Led Zep, ANYTHING that you pick by Tracy Chapman is going to qualify as THE BEST SONG EVER!! The Lenny Kravitz song is beautiful, and I agree with your comments about this version of "Amazing Grace". A top-shelf mix...definately worth the wait!! PEACE
