Comment:

OOh, once I finished this one, I could tell that there was the possibility of a chance that I was in a bad mood. It was, after all, the middle of the early morning and I was preparing to head to the airport to leave my temperate shangri-la and go to San Antonio for a few days. (Long story short - I did have fun at the wedding, but how was I supposed to know before I even left?) Let me start with "Lady Shave" by Fad Gadget (aka Frank Tovey). God, I love this song. It's equal parts sexy, fear, and anger - presumably over some girl that Frank feels "has to shave". Or something like that, it might not be so literal. My english teacher is rolling in his grave (if he's dead, that is). "Capers" is such a brilliant song in its stark and mean brevity. When Nick bellows in the midst of his personal demons that whack him on the head with their penises, it's really something quite brilliant - and scary, in a strange unmarketable way. I like the circus atmosphere - and clowns scare the shit out of me. "Sanity Assassin" - yes, it's not the hardest to find single out there from Bauhaus oeuvres; but who cares? It's a fun, fast song that means a lot to me (provided, of course, that that one night was just me - or somebody slipped me a mickey). As for Sigue Sigue Sputnik, I've just always liked them. They stood for everything that made this country great. Of course, they're British, but that's besides the point. I'm not sure what Andrew Eldritch and the rest of the Sisters of Mercy were smoking when they recorded First and Last and Always in Leeds, but it must have been good. Choosing a song from that record to put on this mix was a little like choosing a tooth from your mouth to pull out. Well, not that extreme, but you know what I mean. "Nine While Nine" won the randomizer contest! "Mr. Self Destruct" is notable because Marc Almond comes oh so very close to actually saying "Fuck" but cuts himself off. You have to admire his restraint, don't you? The Church's "Destination" is just such a pretty song, isn't it? Oh how I love the loveliness - it's so pretty. No, I'm not gay. "Blue Bell Knoll" comes across the horizon like a hallucination of a swarm of very, very stoned wasps. Wait, that's not a hallucination? RUN! I like the way Church and Cocteau Twins introduce Mr. Nick Cave for this rousing (and my favorite off of No More Shall We Part) "Road". It's such a sad song of missed opportunities and a realisation that nothing will ever be the way one wished it would have been. Did that make sense? Gosh, I sure hope so. "God & Mr. Smith" - I didn't realize I had accidentally chosen the mix version instead of the original until I played it in my stereo. I think I like the original better, but oh well - shit happens; just like it does to Mr. Smith. God, Are You There? It's Me, Thomas. Marilyn Manson is my favorite androgynous Satanic worshipper cross dresser Goth singer in the world. And if you listen to the lyrics, you can tell why. As for Depeche Mode, a lot of people like to laugh at them and call them bad names. HOnestly, people - how would you feel if someone called you washed up and not as interesting as you were like, say, thirteen years ago? In this matter, it might be true, but you're not supposed to SAY it! All said and done, this is the best song off of "Exciter", and the song with which they opened their shows for the Exciter Tour. Brilliant, absolutely phenominal song - reminiscent of their earlier work. "Hollow Man" deserves a place here - Ian's thunderous vocals and Duffy's blistering guitars hit a real stride here on the album "Love". More power to 'em. As for ending with Pictures of You, sue me - I just really like the Cure. So there you have it. My mix CD. Oh, yes - there are others. They're just hidden. Maybe one day they'll come out and regale you with some amusing anecdotes about where they've been and who they've seen. But that's for another day.

True, I'll agree - but I was at first reluctant to embrace the term, "Mixed Genre"

Nice mix here, the Birthday Party and Nephilim track are amazing. And even though there best output was a long long time ago, every so often Depeche Mode can churn out a good track like The Dead of Night.
