Comment:

My idea was to make a two disc alt-country set, one disc upbeat (this one) and one slower and more sad. I wanted it to be a more in-depth look at the genre though, so I disqualified anything by Uncle Tupelp, Son Volt, Wilco, Lucinda Williams, the Jayhawks and Gillian Welch. I also didn't include any Joe Pernice or Ryan Adams-penned tunes, though I did include them singing other people's songs. And I did include Bob Dylan, you know, because not many people know him. Thanks to Mo Twang! for track 11 and Rob Hart for track 15. The title is a bastardized line from the opening track.

Nice choices! Good to see Terry Allen, the Basement Tapes, & the Holy Modals represented. That's one of my favorite RE Keen songs.

Yay to big Texas-scene favorites Reckless Kelly (one of my very faves!), REKeen, Steve Earle and the Gourds. Props for dependable standards Old 97's and Whiskeytown. And bonus for Waylon!

Thanks all. And I wasn't really paying attention during my notes. Obviously this wouldn't all be considered "alt-country", but you know what I mean. I ended up drifting away from the specific 90s movement. Anyhow, look for volume 2 in the next few days.

This looks really great. And it's a damn shame what's happened to Nashville.
