mixtapes for me are always a ridiculously slow and laborious process. i'm compulsively perfectionistic about them. putting together a single mixtape requires at least several days (usually several weeks) worth of brainstorming every song i can imagine that would fit well within whatever grand scheme i've imagined for the hypothetical tape. once i've compiled a huge damn list of songs, i finally sit down and sort through it, rearranging songs for hours, playing them, seeing how they fit together, how best to sequence them and arrange them by theme/sound/whatever. only much later do i ever get around to recording. this tape was the product of such effort, and it was made, along with another tape i'm not quite finished with, for a friend who'd requested one. the undertones and themes should be fairly self-explanatory with a straight-through listen. here's hoping it works. (p.s., the title - which is very tentative - is from the bowie song.)
