Comment:
A musical Rorshach! Ya gotta love that, huh? This mix probably reveals more about me than all those naked photos plastered over the Internet...For the uninitiated, the criteria for this mix is as follows:
1. A song from the last record you bought 2. A blues: not a necessarily a blues record but a song that is labelled (something) blues 3. A song that gets you going in the morning 4. A song that you think is romantic 5. One of the earliest records that you can remember listening to. 6. A song that you discovered from a film 7. A song from your favourite band / artist 8. A song from an artist band that you otherwise don't like, but like this one 9. A Lullaby. 10. A song that makes you laugh / you find funny 11. A really good cover version 12. A song that reminds you of school days 13. A song from an artist that you are embarrassed to admit you like 14. Whatever it is, it's got to be funky 15. A song for those quiet rainy days 16. A song that no matter when you hear it makes you
'Feelgood' 17. A song with the word 'Look' in the
title 18. From a member of the 'Dead rockers society' 19. Your favourite Elvis song. 20. Wildcard - Any song you like.
I hold my parents responsible for all this, since they were the ones who were playing "76 Trombones" while I fiddled with Play Doh, fingerpaints and Silly Putty. How else could I learn to love The Ramones?...
Feedback:
Ohmigod, "'Are you Jimmy Ray?' 'Who wants to know?'" -- fantastic! Whatever happened to him, anyway?
this looks like a very cOoL installment within this site-wide series...
a good 'un, ken. i totally agree on #8, props to allan sherman at #10 (i considered him too), #16's a total gas, hard to argue with #19 and it took guts to cop to mitch miller at #13. this is TOO much fun.
THis looks pretty cool Ken. Gerry took my "Look" song, so I'll have to think of another. I love the Deep Purple sandwich with 11-13. Tell me about the band in track 17.
Thanks for the welcome comments re my first mix Ken, hence I looked up your' mixes. Some great choices here and it's great to know that I'm not the only person alive who doesn't like Radiohead (but I'm with you on Creep, infact I nearly chose it myself.
superb. Anyone whose fav band is the ramones is a friend for life!
I just glanced at your mixes and noticed this Fronkensteen mix. I posted one myself back on 1/19/2006. What struck me as quite peculiar was that we happened to choose the same Alan Sherman song for the comic tenth track! Also, we are about the same age (I was ten in the spring of 1965). Like your choices for tracks 8, 12, 16 & 19 a whole lot. Glad you liked my last mix and thanks for your comment!
Billy Bremner? Not the famous Leeds United footballer surely? Hey, that probably means nothing to you. This looks great. I agree, Tk 11 is a really good cover version.
