My grandmother is in the hospital with diverticulitis. We're very close. She's quite old and the operation may be dangerous... so she's got to make a tough decision. It's so difficult seeing someone who helped raise me, who was always so strong, weakening and slipping in the winter years. If she wants to go home and take her chances, so she can live her last days at home and not in a hospital, I want to support her, but it is so hard to not fight for someone you love to take every chance to live longer. I made this tape to help wring out my feelings of sadness, frustration, and worry for her.
By pure chance, 3 songs by recently deceased musicians ended up on this tape. The two versions of "Gloomy Sunday," a song legendary for possibly being linked to a rash of suicides in 1930's Hungary, have been soothing lately. And no one sings pain like magic Judy Henske.
