Comment:

Invictus by W. E. Henley

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be,
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance,
I have winced but not cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance,
My head is bloodied but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears,
Looms but the horror of the shade.
And yet the menace of the years,
Finds, and shall find me, unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate,
I am the captain of my soul.

The inscription on the tape cover about "we slaughter all evil by dawn's early light" is from the Jacques Brel song. Normally I don't go for show tunes, but this one's lyrics are great. Overall a theme of struggling through life, alienation, broken hearts, and drowning your sorrows in alcohol. And getting up to fight another day, even if you know you're gonna lose.

The Coil track is off "The Horse Rotorvator," one of my all-time fave albums. A freaky apocalypse concept album. I'm not sure if they're also Psychic TV (another band I like quite a bit) but I wouldn't doubt it. It's a hard to find album, but worth it for this track, Penetralia, and "The First Five Minutes After Death."

The cover art alone is worth mix of the week. Long live themed mixes!
