Comment:
I don't dance. At least not in public. I sometimes will shimmy in my car, and I tried to dance once in the shower, but that didn't work out very well. So this mix started off as a kind of "what I would dance to if I danced, which I don't", and that kind of changed over time, but it's still intact, for the most part. And I'd like to say that if there were more singles like that Outkast one, I might actually listen to the radio every once in a while. Title from the Dead Milkmen.Feedback:
really great picks all over
ditto re: outkast. the rest of this is like a perfect distilation of my favorite tunes from high school -- track for track fantastic.
Lots of treats all the way. Just getting into that new Outkast album...sounds good so far (although that sticker on the spine of a 2CD case is 'stremely frustrating :~|).
This mix brings me back to the day..Wow..Dead Milkmen, I used to love that song. This is a keeper.
Loads of great stuff. Love the Milkmen; hate that Joe Strummer song, though . . .
Outkast track rules. I was dancin like crazy to that on Saturday night (and lots others too).
I don't dance either, so that's nothong to be ashamed of. This mix is top class picks all the way.
This is very cool. I feel the same way about OutKast and the radio. As I'm fond of telling people, the first time I heard "Hey Ya" on my car radio, I nearly drove off the road. The Milkmen were somehow associated with the college I went to (not sure if they actually attended, but I've always heard that)--I'll never forget the night I brought their first album, Big Lizard In My Backyard, back to my dorm room.
I can't dance either, adam. I know how you feel. I just adore that Outkast tune. oh, and I sent off the alt-country mixes to you--so you should get them before the weekend. :)
Yeah - I could dance to Virginia Plain. Good one!
Yes, I could shake a tail feather to this. My wife actually is hipper to the Outkast than I am, having exposed me to that Hey Ya! tune. What does the rest of the record sound like?
Wow, Adam - kewl mix! Totally love the Fastbacks and Alex Chilton, especially. I'd boogie to them any time.
Another bunch of great picks. Ian Drury, yikes.
Looks great. I've really been meaning to check out OutKast...
Ion- It's an interesting album. I'll be the first to admit I don't frequently listen to hip-hop, but this has a different vibe than a lot of stuff I've heard on the radio. It's kinda rooted in funk and soul, with a bit of psychedelia thrown in. I'm enjoying it thus far. The downside is that there are a lot of spoken word interludes, which get tiring after hearing them over and over again. And thanks for the comments everyone.
This looks really cool Adam
It took me a while to appreciate, but Outkast is more goofy than "good". Not that it's bad, by any means, I think they just need to be appreciated for what they are. And I think that's done well on this mix... I expect to see you dancing to this on New Years.
I disagree with you, Nate. I think it's really quite good. The fact that they are at times amusing is completely irrelevant in judging the quality of the music. A perfect example is the Mountain Goats. "Golden Boy" is both goofy and really fucking good. That's where I'm coming from, at least. Sorry it took me a month to respond.
Mott, Roxy and Dolls all rolled up into a "big-hurt" samwich...good go here!
