Comment:

I don't dance. At least not in public. I sometimes will shimmy in my car, and I tried to dance once in the shower, but that didn't work out very well. So this mix started off as a kind of "what I would dance to if I danced, which I don't", and that kind of changed over time, but it's still intact, for the most part. And I'd like to say that if there were more singles like that Outkast one, I might actually listen to the radio every once in a while. Title from the Dead Milkmen.

Lots of treats all the way. Just getting into that new Outkast album...sounds good so far (although that sticker on the spine of a 2CD case is 'stremely frustrating :~|).

This is very cool. I feel the same way about OutKast and the radio. As I'm fond of telling people, the first time I heard "Hey Ya" on my car radio, I nearly drove off the road. The Milkmen were somehow associated with the college I went to (not sure if they actually attended, but I've always heard that)--I'll never forget the night I brought their first album, Big Lizard In My Backyard, back to my dorm room.

Yes, I could shake a tail feather to this. My wife actually is hipper to the Outkast than I am, having exposed me to that Hey Ya! tune. What does the rest of the record sound like?

Ion- It's an interesting album. I'll be the first to admit I don't frequently listen to hip-hop, but this has a different vibe than a lot of stuff I've heard on the radio. It's kinda rooted in funk and soul, with a bit of psychedelia thrown in. I'm enjoying it thus far. The downside is that there are a lot of spoken word interludes, which get tiring after hearing them over and over again. And thanks for the comments everyone.

It took me a while to appreciate, but Outkast is more goofy than "good". Not that it's bad, by any means, I think they just need to be appreciated for what they are. And I think that's done well on this mix... I expect to see you dancing to this on New Years.

I disagree with you, Nate. I think it's really quite good. The fact that they are at times amusing is completely irrelevant in judging the quality of the music. A perfect example is the Mountain Goats. "Golden Boy" is both goofy and really fucking good. That's where I'm coming from, at least. Sorry it took me a month to respond.
