WEEZER - "Rock Music"
Comment:
I'm mainly posting this for posterity, and to see what kind of comments I get. I am most definitely an "old school" Weezer fan (first heard 'em in 1994, saw the Mykel and Carli tribute concert in 97), but this is not exactly meant to be a "definitive" Weezer disc. It was made for a friend from the UK who only owned the "Hash Pipe" single and had heard--and liked--"Buddy Holly." Having said that, there isn't much I'd change if I was making it an absolutely "definitive" compilation...I'd probably have to wedge in the omitted singles. Other than that, I'm pretty happy with this disc. Real heavy on the first two albums (which I love) but including some of the highlights from their oft-maligned later albums (which I'm iffy on). BTW, I'll state here that "Only In Dreams" is *the* most definitive Weezer song ever recorded, for my money.
Feedback:
"Only in Dreams" is a positively EPIC tune. Such a great album-closer...
if you ask me, i think this is alright, but i love pinkerton so much that i would have replaced more green-album tracks with the best songs from pinkerton...for example, "getchoo" is not the first one i'd think of, but "across the sea" is.
I'm one of the folks who thinks "Across The Sea" is fairly overrated. My fave track on "Pinkerton" is "No Other One," by a longshot. And by the way, there are six tracks here from "Pinkerton" and only three from the green album. That doesn't seem unreasonable to me.
i love across the sea, it's my fave on pinkerton. think you made a great mix with many songs i like (but i like almost all weezer-songs). and the cover is awesome
Thanks Annika. And I should clarify that when I said "Across The Sea" was overrated, I basically mean it's the only song people seem to single out when it comes to that album, which I think is unfair. Also, the cover was the first place entry in weezer.com's "Maladroit" album cover contest, designed by Heisuke Kitazawa.
