Comment:

jan. 2004 -- After a moment of pop music euphoria thanks to the Pogues' cover of "Dirty Old Town" on Beth's latest tape, I was inspired to respond with a collection of songs about being Down And Out. As usual, mini-narratives: the controlled-substance escalation on side one from pure song ("Walt Whitman's Niece") through "whisky" and "Heroin," a drug which also informs the Chet Baker and Derek numbers...then the train ride through America on side two, complete with two lovers' quarrels: Mick and Marianne, Bob and Joan. Add a brown paper tape case, typewriter typed liner notes and you're all set.
