Comment:

I took my intended theme for a mix (indie rock bands covering the most nostalgic retro tunes [naturally an idea I came up with while listening th Stereo Total]), then decided that it should be more specific and as such opted to search for covers of old surf rock songs. It was then that I recalled the fact that there was really only one surf rock band being covered, namely (obviously) The Beach Boys. I know I put two versions of one song, and I know it's a bit of a cop-out to use the Ramones cover song, but please notice I didn't stoop to Pennywise!

Cool idea--the BB's were actually a great pop band from '67 to '76 though they had hardly any hits. For those who are looking to dl these tunes, "Hang on to Your Ego" was actually done by Frank Black, not the Pixies. Can you let me know where YLT's "Do It Again" appeared? If you are looking for an indie-pop BB's cover disc, check out "Caroline Now" w/Alex Chilton, Aluminum Group, Norman Blake (Teenage Fan Club)and more. Thanks for sharing Designosaur!!

The Yo la Tengo song "appeared" on SoulSeek...It is performed live, so it might be a bootleg. Don't know which album [if any] it was on.
