Comment:

There's not much to say, really. If I were going to create my own religion, I'd definitely make Johnny Cash one of the major prophets. As for the mix, it's obviously impossible to get every great Cash song on one disc(or six, for that matter), so there are a bunch that I'm unhappy about leaving off. "Hey Porter" and "Cry Cry Cry" are two of the bigger ones, but hey, that's the way it goes. Oh, OH, wait. Let me do that over. "...two of the bigger ones, but hey, I guess things happen that way." Mmmm, that's what I should have said.

Yippee! I get to be the first to comment! Great comments, as usual. Johnny Cash is so deep in my head, I almost don't need a copy to hear it. Nice job. But I figure it's only volume one! You go, Adam.

I don't know, I really like him but some of his songs esp the funny ones are a bit phoney I think, I mean I can't stand Daddy sang bass for an example, and I miss Muddy water and Folksinger, both great covered by Nick Cave

i beg to differ a bit with p the swede, as there were lots of great funny johnny cash songs, especially "i've been everywhere" and "one piece at a time"...this mix is absolutely terrific.

Great best-of. You've got two of my three faves here ("Man In Black" and "Don't Take your Guns to Town" - missing is the first JC song I loved: "One Piece At A Time"). I'm a fan of his funny songs as well as the gut wrenching slow ones. Hell, I even like his gospel songs. Even when he sort of lost his direction in the 70's and 80's his records were always worth hearing - it's pretty hard to find an unworthy song in his whole damn catalog.

It's off the third "American" disc. It's really quite good. The song, that is. The disc is okay.

Oh, and all three songs mentioned were cut near the end of the proceedings, for what it's worth. I must say that I DO like "Daddy Sang Bass" (as I suppose is clear from its inclusion), but then again, I'm madly in love with the man, and therefore probably not the most clear-eyed judge of quality.

Really great stuff here, Adam. Mr. Cash is well-respected in this house, that's for sure.

Looks great, as a Johnny Cash mix would. (I did one, too... "I ain't seen the sunshine since I don't know when.")
