Threw a cocktail party at the end of January. The phases break down as follows:
Phase 1: People are arriving, wearing their cocktail dresses or skinny ties, just getting the hang of mixing drinks, music is very loungey, makes all of us feel older and more sophisticated, though half the group is underage.
Phase 2: People are starting to feel toasty. Music gets a little louder, a little more rock-and roll, but at the same time maintaining a loungey vibe. Songs people are comfortable with, conducive to general "raising voice to be heard over the crowd and music" mingling.
Phase 3: Everyone has had enough drinks to feel like dancing. Let's indulge them.
