Comment:
Not autobiographical, no . . . originally this was going to be a gift for a friend's upcoming 40th birthday, but the way it came out - well, it's just not birthday party material. It seems like songwriters at midpoint look backward mostly with regret & look forward mostly with confusion, which sends kind of a discouraging signal, doesn't it? That said, most of these songs are catchy enough, the title track is a funny one, & I tried to end up on a relatively upbeat 'make the best of it' note, w/ Tommy MacClain's great get-it-while-you-can anthem . . .

Feedback:
Interesting concept, great execution. My friend just turned 40 too, I didn't even consider an age mix. Rats...
Wow, there's a lot of cool stuff here, and that last track is great. For whatever reason, the McClain version always seems somewhat uplifting, yet Joe Strummer's version(re-titled "Silver & Gold") always makes me kind of sad...probably the circumstances. Anyhow, this looks excellent.
Great , great mix! I love that Tommy McLain song. Nice cover work as well...
Fantastic Joey. 40 is not as bad as it sounds...honest...
fantastic. LOVE the opening track especially. about a year and a half till i have to do one o' these meself. couting the seconds....
Well, maybe not party material, but a fine perspective nonetheless. Tunes for every emotion. And isn't "In Tall Buildings" about the saddest song ever written?
heh...a great mix for the topic/theme: I've known several dudes (duds-?) who fit the title (great title, btw !)...
Why is it guys like those usually have [huge] tabs at the local distillary , a dusty collection of exotic beers, AND are friggin' experts on every conceivable topic under the sun...? (which they are quick to impart upon anyone who'll listen)
(must come with the territory)...this is the best art I've seen on AotM yet this year!

You know what kinda fits this mix? "Jack gets Up" by Leo Kottke. "If you look in the mirror it's your father's face / And the thin grin, the thin grin, the thin grin... Everyday in the morning when you get up and you crawl out of bed." Great song.
I was forty ten days ago, and love this mix! It ain't so bad, I've still got my own teeth!
Great mix, Joey.
Yes, a great mix of wonderful tunes. Turnin' 40... seems like yesterday. I was in grad school at the time. Writing papers and changin' diapers for my youngest kid. He's a lot bigger than me now. Does that make me the oldest AoTMer...
Great cover too.
Great cover too.
I'll join in the praise chorus for the mix joey...,give it to him! (Doesn't have to be "party material", just the sentiment of recognition.) Great cover!!!
Great mix - nice to see Greg Brown & Bill Morrissey included - both incredible songwriters. It's always good to see some John Hiatt too - Your Dad Did is an anthem for those of us well past our twenties...
Really, really something special. One of your best, and that's saying something.
Praise Joey indeed...
Great mix Joey. I hit the big 4 0h last June & the scars quite literally from my burpday bash have only just healed. Have to say 40 is great cos I'm now retired and have all the time in the world to dedicate to my obsession with music. Keep up the good work.
This looks great, Joey. I'm rapidly approaching 37 and thankfully not living anywhere near my mom's garage!
