Comment:
I've been trying to craft one of those great "whoo, here comes summer" mixes for about two months, but it's very hard to do when there is snow on the ground. Over the last few days, though, we've finally gotten some warm temperatures, and my inspiration was renewed. So, here she is.Before I submit this, I'm sitting here looking over the songs one last time, and realizing that the lyrical content of some of them doesn't quite match the giddy mood of the music. I mean, there are songs about suicide, hopeless drug dependency, and insane asylums. I guess that's what summer's all about, though. You know, that and girls.
Thanks to Charlie Rose for the new and improved title.
Feedback:
...oh, yes GIRLS & more GIRLS...& GIRLS w/SNAKES...Here Comes The Summer by The Mighty Undertones must be one of the greatest Summer Anthems!
This looks cool. I like that song by Kirsty.
This is a really kick-ass mix! Do you like the Breakup Society stuff? You may know that I have a vested interest in that band.... :-) Nothing but great summery songs here. Bitchin!
This looks wonderful. What could ring in the season with more amplitude than insanity, dependency and dames?
Sean, I am enjoying that Breakup Society album. I haven't yet managed to pick up anything by the Frampton Brothers, though I've been keeping an eye out for "File Under F For Failure". Good place to start? And thanks for the comments, people.
And damn, "Insanity, Dependency and Dames" would have been a much better title. Screw it, I'm changing the name. Thanks for the help.
Great. Great. Great. And Ed thanks you for including the Breakup Society, I'm sure. I can't wait to tell him it's been used by someone other than me. And yeah, File Under F is their best, followed by the Hate You e.p. If you need copies of these, I'm sure that Sean or I could help you obtain them...
Hooray for "hopeless drug dependency!" Fantastic mix. Love the stretch from Guided by Voices to The Knack especially.
really great stuff here!
Lovely stuff, Adam. I especially like the Brian Jonestown Massacre, Young Fresh Fellows, and Undertones pix.
really cool stuff.
Very cool mix, especially like the dBs, Guadalcanal Diary, Steve Earle, Undertones, Boiled in Lead, etc, etc.
Mad, bad & madames. Love this Adam. Roll on Summer.
I'll echo..echo..echo Curtis the Burns! (Although add the BJM track to the skein.)
Immensly fantastic mix Adam. I'll never tire of a good summer mix. Wish you could be here in San Diego enjoying the sunshine with us!
Meant to comment on this yesterday and got sidetracked. Ummm...what everybody else said, this is a great one. I especially dig the Blue Mountain track. awesome mix, really.
This looks like a great way to pass the time over the next six months while waiting for summer to hit Minneapolis.
Whoa! Two of my absolute faves on one CD-- Wes (surprised you didn't pick his "Summer Single") and Kirsty (RIP)-- though I love the full title on that one ("swears he's Elvis"). I'm w/ Lo-Fi...waitin for a little summer in the cities. Great effort.
looks really smashing but don't complain 'but the weather, think about me :)
ahhhh...american music.....
Yeah, that and girls. You're right this doesn't reduce to a simple single concept but it looks like it really works. I'd like to hear it if you'd like to trade -
Looks lovely....But I must say I can't listen to Darkness, sometimes I think Darkness are the devil's right hand;)
Actually, I know where you're coming from, Mike. I kept trying to fight it, and not like that song, but eventually I couldn't resist it anymore. Thanks for the comment(s).
"The kids just wanna dance" thanks for including us, www.thefastcars.com
The last in the list of accolades! But it's a great mix.Love love love that dB's cut and Steve Earle is always in order.
