Comment:

If you don't know, Igor Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring tells a chilling tale of a dark pagan past, about a spring sacrifice, and when it debuted in 1913 in Paris, it caused a riot. This is a piece of classical music we're talking about, causing a riot. Some say it was the most important musical moment of the 20th century, that it helped shape modern music, yet very few people my age actually know about it. So, this is my attempt to bring the amazing musical statement up to date by incorporating modern songs into the actual 30-some minute opus. That's why I'm calling it "The Rewrite of Spring." I highly recommend, if you make this CD, to put a 0 second gap between songs, for the full effect. Also, while the Leonard Bernstein version is considered the best recording of The Rite of Spring, the version I used, found on "Stravinsky-The Great Ballets," fits onto a CD.

Nice concept. When I hear RoS now I think it's funny that at one time it was so outrageous that they rioted over it. I thought it was a nostlagic exageration but a year or so ago I read a more detailed account and it was a bonafide riot.

I've heard the riot story, but have always suspected it has an element of exaggeration to it. Anyway, very nicely done mix, and great homage to Stravinsky. How did you pick the newer songs to intersperse into Rite of Spring? (I don't know the songs and it wasn't obvious from the titles.)
