Comment:
Well, I wanted to provide equal time for cats (or Feline Americans as they're called here in Berkeley),to balance out my earlier
Lucky Dog,
but you know, there are a lot more songs about dogs out there than about cats,
so this isn't a full CD's worth yet,
& I've got room for more -- but! only for songs really & substantially about cats,
not just a word in the title or a passing reference in the lyrics. (Thanks to Nest of Vipers for "Fantastic Cat" from one of her many Fantastic Mixes.)
This mix took an odd & unplanned turn towards cartoon land (?possibly set off by that mischievous Felix the Cat?),
which is why it ends up with Mel Blanc as Sylvester.

Feedback:
this mix has me "feline" fine!
im sooo happy you put takako minekawa on there lol tho for some reason i had forgotten about fantastic cat and was thinking cat house. regardless, awesome.
cool. All I can think of of the top of my head is Stray Cat Strut by Stray Cats.
well can your pussy do the dog, ;) nice work
Great Mix, ..and better to stray down the cartoon alley than to be dragged along the stage show route!
A couple of possibles from mainstream artists are "Love Cats" by The Cure or David Bowies "Cat People (Putting Out the Fire)" - although the Bowie may not fit your stringent lyrical criteria.
So after Cats, Dogs, Birds, Chickens and Monkeys what is left .. Fish? . Horses perhaps .Maybe Insects! -yeah that's it Insects.
Please keep them coming!!

Looks great. Let's trade for this when I clean my plate a bit...
Lovely Joey!
Hate cats - love mix.
Cats is cool creatures. So is this mix..., RMLondon mentioned the ones I was scanning the tracklist for. (I guess Mr. Nugent doesn't need mentioning...gak.)
I'm not a cat person, but this mix just might change my mind! It's purrrrfect! (Sorry, couldn't resist.) Timbuk 3: Facts About Cats.
very cool
Purrrrrrrrrrrrrrr-fection! Hope you made me a copy.
Awesome. I was thinking "Year of the Cat" by Al Stewart, but then I read your criteria, and it wouldn't have fit. Looks like a tough mix to put together.
Stray Cat Strut would be essential
No Pussy Control?
Oh wait, I see what you're trying to accomplish...maybe that wouldn't fit.
Good mix though.

As a freaky cat owner (we have 4, count 'em, FOUR cats), I give it my "Paws-up"! And so do Fiona, Kosmo, Kepler, and Kaya. I've met a handful of cat-haters in my day -- I feel sorry for them, but cats aren't for everyone. You have to respect a cat on its own terms - kind of like a person. They don't have that unconditional love thing - not the way many dogs do, so far as I can tell. Anyhow, I ain't no Dr. Doolittle - but I do like these selections. Mreow!
I was doin a Cat Mix but abandoned it...I think yours is a lot better than mine, though suprisingly it was completely different. Good Job!
Hey, isn't the cover art by that insane french guy? MEOW!
To paraphrase "Rent," you are online with the felines! Great job.
Saaf, you spotted it - the cover art is by Louis Wain - "the man who drew cats" -- He's a famous example in textbooks about schizophrenia because he drew some very strange cat pictures when in a mental asylum. But a lot of the earlier ones he drew as a successful commercial artist are pretty strange too. I don't think there's a web site devoted to him, but there are a couple of books out about him -- he was an odd duck. (British, though, not French.)
I'm still no cat lover - yet have two of them in my house - the wife and kids love them - which is OK - & they are in my good graces today b/c the little one (cat, not kid) caught a mouse yesterday. And though she left it on the living room floor, freaking out the wife and little one (kid this time, not cat) - I felt that the cat had done a good thing for once (rather than tearing up the furniture, carpeting, drapes or crapping on the bed) - so she gets to stay another day. Kudos to the Kat (who, b/t/w looks just like the cat in the insane guy's painting above).
p.s. - not a dog lover either...

Sorry for so many comments - but found an interesting webpage on Wain - http://www.epub.org.br/cm/gallery/gall_leonardo/fig1-a.htm
How are the "normal period" pix more "normal" than the "psychotic period" pix, I'm wondering? They look pretty wacked out to me...

This mix is the cat's meow! (has anyone used that one yet?). Really f(el)ine stuff from top to bottom. We'll have to trade soon!
interesting mix! hope your trip went well!
Fantastic!
Although it wouldn't fit in this mix that well, the new Lou Barlow album closes with a track called "The Ballad of Day Kitty" and it is one of the sweetest little kitty songs I've ever heard. :)
Your mixes are always so much fun to browse through... In case you get any requests and need some more cat songs, there is a good companion song to the Takako Minekawa track called "Phenomenal Cat" by the Kinks. Let me know if you want it, I'd be happy to send it. ( :
You need "Delilah" by Queen. "...when you pee all over my Chippendale suite." "Bijou" from the same album was also written about one of Freddie's cat, but not obviously so.
