Comment:
Foolishly, I mildly criticised AN Other's Smiths mix and felt obliged to immediately to create my own. That'll "learn" me.I used the wonderful Mixmeister 5 Pro to mix these tracks for the maximum listening pleasure of my three year older daughter for whose tender ears this mix is intended, and I have to say I'm especially pleased by the way the end of "Panic" can be mixed into the intro to "The Queen Is Dead". Other than that, nothing to see here, nothing new ... just noblesse oblige
PS - The artwork (as Marie H indicates) comes from the Carry On movie 'Carry On Cleo' and features Sid James as Anthony and Amanda Barrie as Cleopatra.
Feedback:
Where is the cover image from?
"As Anthony said to Cleopatra"...! (Carry On Cleo) Don't worry, I appreciate constructive criticism! I know the mix doesn't necessarily look right on paper, but it was structured in a "let's keep people's attention" way, and this is the thing with "tailored" single artist mixes - they have a very subjective target and so are less likely to have general appeal. Firstly I think it's mightily cool that you made a Smiths mix for your daughter; I hope she digs it, but I'm sure she will. Generally I have a hard time criticising Smiths mixes because I love just about all of their songs; obviously I pay attention to sequencing but this looks like it's well-sequenced; I can imagine the flow of 1-8 very well and I like the placement of Ask. You have a lot of my favourites here (Half A Person, Stretch Out..) but not Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now, my absolute favourite! (But see above about mix subjectivity). My only real qualm would be the placement of the first and last tracks
- I wouldn't use Unloveable at the beginning. But this looks well thought-out and I'd imagine it sounds really good because of the mixing technology used. (PS: Back To The Old House on Hatful of Hollow doesn't have percussion!) Phew. I will stop now. As has been said, there's always room for another Smiths mix :)

I actually had "Meat Is Murder" at the beginning, but dropped it for "Unloveable" because it's way funnier. Similarly, I went for "Some Girls" at the end precisely because it has that cathartic humour and also a fade-in, fade-out, fade-in intro that works well (in my lil world) at the end of the mix. My other high spot here is following two songs that lean heavily on the works of Shelagh Delaney with a song "about" her. Perhaps I need to get out more?
Good pick for the cover art, very much in keeping with the style they used.
