Comment:

My new favourite band.

I don't know if it's the summer heat, the spirit of the south, or what, but I'm becoming increasingly in touch with my ironic redneck self, and where better to indulge my inner goat-roper than in Cracker Country?

Obviously, Cracker have many more strings to their bow than a single country twang thang. But when they give rein to their mullets, their largely easy-going good-humoured country stylings are quite the perfect thing for the summer. All I need now is a front porch, a rocker and a cooler full of Falstaff.

This compilation draws on pretty much all the Cracker albums -- except the bluegrass revisionism of "Oh Cracker, Where Art Thou?" -- and includes a number of tracks from their latest release, "Countrysides". And you can hear it here -- http://www.starshy.com/music/motw.html

The closing number, a touching ode to Virgin Records, is worth the admission money alone.

Looks great. Saw them live once and they were amazing. Hopefully you've investigated Camper VB as well.

Cracker's one of those bands I always wanted to like more than I actually did. Maybe it was just the high standard set by Camper Van Beethoven (ok, they were overrated, but had some great songs), but nothing I've heard from Cracker quite lived up to their potential.
