Comment:

my parent's have a gigantic record collection, most of it sucks. but there's plenty of gems buried in there. since they don't listen to any of them anymore, they've been sitting on the floor of my room for a long time. so i decided to pull out a few and make a mix. crackles and all.

I wish my parents had cool old records. I'm not sure that a compilation consisting of ABBA, Kris Kristofferson and Rita Coolidge would work that well. Nice selection and I must say, I do like the crackle of old vinyl.

i've recently been ripping my vinyl '45's into my pc using the output from stereo to plug into my pc sound card. the sound card software is set to minimize clicks and crackles to get tracks that sound much better than any first-time-transfer cd's from the '80's and early '90's.
i'm still kicking myself for trading in my 'redundant' LP's of sinead o'connor and blue rodeo when i bought them on cd :(

Gotta disagree w/you shallowdays - My Generation may well be overplayed - but is w/o a doubt one of The Who's crowning acheivements. Big Shot was one of the last great songs Billy Joel ever wrote - I can't think of anything after that song that even came close (Maybe something from "Glass Houses").

I'm holding to my vinyl for precisely this reason. So my kids can discover 'new' music and ideas at their own pace.

Of course, by the time they're going to want to check their old man's sounds out, even my CDs will be antiques.

Some of these choices are maybe a little obvious, but they're obvious precisely because they're in-your-face stand-out tracks. Some of the 'better' songs just take some getting used to.
